Women Cricket tops the Weekend

British American Insurance Women Cricket League began last weekend and held the spotlight. It’s the first time Cayman Islands Cricket Association has ventured into this area of development and it was a blast. ESSO Panthers dominated the day with outstanding performances at the George Hicks High School ground. It was truly a sight to behold when ESSO Panthers captain Molly Moore and Stingrays captain Beverly Scott went out for the first toss. Joined by youthful umpires Zachary McLaughlin and Deighton Parker the Stingrays won the toss and invited ESSO Panthers to take the first turn at batting.

Stingrays had a very auspicious start capturing two Panthers wickets with only 20 runs on the board. That was all for them as Wyvonne Forbes and Deserene Cox added 128 runs for the third wicket. Forbes scored 60n.o displaying a wide arrear of strokes with 3 sixes and 7 fours while Cox scored 7 fours in making 41n.o. Coach Cuffy had to eat his words when he remarked that the ladies cannot hit the ball over the fence as Forbes immediately dispatched one her sixes on the main road. That’s woman power! ESSO Panthers ended their inning with 148 runs for 2 wickets in 16 overs.

Stingray put up a gallant effort in scoring 116 runs for the lost of 8 wickets. Beverly Scott 14n.o and Judith Hydes 14 were the main scorers for Stingrays. Excellent bowling from Deserene Cox 3 for 28, Carmen Singh 2 for 23 and Sheila Rankine 2 for 40 gave the ESSO Panthers victory by 32 runs.
