
PRISON STARTS ON A WINNING NOTE
2010 cricket season began last weekend with 5 matches played on Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac. Defending Division 1 champions Prison started on a winning note against second team Greenies 1 but it was not easy as it looks. Batting first Greenies 1 posted a competitive total of 179 runs for 5 wickets with good contributions from Shaun Nevling 55 and Craig Scott 36. The dream run continues from 2009 as captain Saheed Mohamed 60 not out guide his team with another composed performance. After Steve Gordon 30 left Greenies were back in the match however Mohamed called on his vast experience to marshal his lower end batsmen and to victory by 2 wickets.
At the Smith Road Oval, Lime Schools were in the driver’s seat as Police stumbled to 6 wickets for 114 runs. An excellent partnership between Germin Sooknanan 33 and Dave Cumberbatch 20 turn matters around taking Police to 181 for 8 wickets. Kervin Ebanks 3 wickets, Sacha de Alvis and Marlon Bryan 2 wickets each were the best of Schools. Police spin attack proved too much for the youngsters as they folded to Alessandro Morris 5 wicket and Ryan Bovell 2 wickets in his new role as a spinner. It was however the bowling of Cleviston Hunte 8 overs for 9 runs and Dave Cumberbatch 4 overs for 1 run which sealed the deal for Police giving them victory by 87 runs.
In Division 2 action Paramount DTA traveled to Cayman Brac and won the first match. Excellent bowling from Paul Rampersaud and Carlton West plus an outstanding captain’s knock from Leon Watson aided by Robert Moore gave Paramount victory by 6 wickets.
Chillies created history by scoring 329 runs at the Jimmy Powell Oval and removed new team Oness for 92. Good all round contributions came fro Arun and Gopi with the bat and Chandra with the ball.
UCCI/West Bay began in style defeating Aims Consultants by 9 wickets. After captain Morvin Brooks broke the backs of Aims Consultants by taking 4 wickets, Perry George rolled back the years with a stroke filled 65 not out.
