Cricket Report

CICA 2009 season first tournament was completed on Sunday with champions determined in the CLICO Cayman 20/20 Division 1. Having crowned winners in Division 2 one week ago when ESSO Cubs defeated Paramount DTA, cricket fans were out in their numbers for the big one.

By Rite crowned CLICO Cayman 20/20 Champions 2009 It was a fitting climax to an intriguing competition. CLICO Cayman 20/20 Division 1 final was contested yesterday at the Smith Road Oval. The experience of the By Rite team proved too much for the young LIME Schools team. In a low scoring match By Rite won by 6 wickets.

LIME Schools batted first and got of to an uncertain start losing Zachary McLaughlin for no score in the first over. Ramon Sealy 15, Darren Cato 18 and Omar Willis 19 were the main contributors for LIME Schools. Conroy Wright was the picked up of the By Rite bowlers getting 5 wickets. Michael Wight and Omar Bryan took 2 wickets each as By Rite contained the LIME Schools team to 88 runs.

When By Rite batted, LIME Schools got a window of opportunity by removing 3 By Rite wickets for 1 run in 2 overs but Keniel Irving 46 and Conroy Wright 31 weathered the youthful storm and took By Rite to another championship win. Kervin Ebanks took 2 wickets for LIME Schools.

A pleasing tribute to our cricket development was most visible during the Division 1 final. There were 16 players between the ages of 18 and 25 taking part in the match. Cayman Islands on the go!
